Authorities confirmed the detention of at least five suspects after the grim discovery of 10 bodies scattered across different locations in Zacatecas. The detainees, believed to be involved in the case, come from Zacatecas itself as well as neighboring states Durango and Sinaloa. Among those arrested is a minor.

Coordinated operations between state and federal forces have led to three raids in the municipalities of Guadalupe, Fresnillo, and Zacatecas city. These actions resulted in the seizure of 1,200 doses of narcotics, six marijuana cigarettes, five stolen vehicles, one firearm, and seven magazines with live ammunition.

On July 21, a new deployment in the municipality of Morelos resulted in the capture of Leonel ‘N’, 23, from Durango, and Dulce ‘N’, a minor from Jerez, Zacatecas. Both are believed to be part of a criminal cell linked to the events that unfolded on July 18. During their arrest, authorities found two males and one female minor carrying drugs, tire puncturing devices, and magazines for high-caliber .223 weapons.

In response to a video circulating on social media, allegedly produced by a criminal group, Zacatecas’ Secretary of Public Security, Arturo Medina Mayoral, dismissed it as a poorly made attempt to spread fear. He described the video as politically charged nonsense rather than a genuine criminal threat and vowed to identify those responsible for its creation and dissemination.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Reyes Murgüerza, Secretary General of Government, emphasized that the video aims to sow misinformation, fear, and uncertainty among the public. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continue coordinated security efforts across all levels of government to combat organized crime and ensure justice for the tragedy that has deeply affected Zacatecas.

Reyes Murgüerza was clear in distancing the government of David Monreal from any ties to organized crime, stating, “We want to firmly and clearly establish the position of the state government: we do not make deals with any criminal groups, absolutely none, nor have we ever done so.”
