A tragic case of alleged medical negligence unfolded in Puebla when a six-year-old girl died following a minor surgery at La Sagrada Familia clinic in San Pedro Cholula.

The incident occurred on Friday, July 17, when the child underwent what was reportedly an appendectomy. Hours after the procedure, the family was informed of her death, but they say they received no clear explanation about what happened during the surgery.

Family members and their lawyer, Angélica Juárez, have publicly accused the clinic’s medical staff of malpractice and called on the Fiscalía General del Estado and the state government to intervene and ensure justice. Juárez emphasized the urgency of the case, stating, “Today, another death due to medical negligence, this time a child. We call on the community, society, and authorities because we want one thing: justice.”

The family also urged authorities to investigate whether La Sagrada Familia clinic holds the proper permits to operate, aiming to prevent further incidents of negligence affecting other patients.

This case raises broader concerns about the oversight and conditions of private clinics in Puebla, echoing a similar tragedy from May 18 at the Detox clinic on Calzada Zavaleta. There, Blanca Adriana Vázquez died during a cosmetic surgery under circumstances still unclear, while the supposed doctors involved remain fugitives for using false credentials.

As Puebla continues to develop its healthcare infrastructure, including projects like the cablebús system that aim to improve access and quality of public services, these incidents highlight the critical need for stronger regulation and accountability in private medical facilities to protect vulnerable patients.
