Two rescuers from Puebla, Miguel Ángel Martínez and Alberto Peña Martínez, have returned to Mexico after participating in an international search and rescue mission organized by the Mexican Red Cross in Venezuela. Their deployment followed the devastating earthquake that struck the South American country on June 24, 2026.
During a press conference, Paula Saukko de Murrieta, the state delegate of the Mexican Red Cross in Puebla, praised the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of both rescuers. She emphasized that their involvement showcased Puebla’s technical expertise and readiness to respond to large-scale emergencies, both domestically and abroad.
Martínez and Peña Martínez worked alongside national and international disaster response teams, focusing on search, location, and assistance efforts for those affected by the earthquake. Their mission was part of a broader humanitarian aid initiative led by the Mexican Red Cross to support Venezuela in the aftermath of the natural disaster, which caused significant damage across multiple regions.
This collaboration highlights the importance of international solidarity and the role of well-prepared emergency teams in mitigating the impact of disasters. For communities in Puebla and beyond, it’s a reminder of how local expertise can contribute meaningfully on a global scale.
