During a press conference held in Mexico City, Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta accused the previous administration led by Rafael Moreno Valle of allowing fuel theft, known locally as huachicol, to operate with protection from state authorities.
Armenta pointed out that this criminal activity expanded during the six-year term of the PAN party, without directly naming Moreno Valle, who passed away in a helicopter accident. He emphasized that the complicity of officials at the time enabled the growth of this illegal practice.
While highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the governor stressed that it is up to the relevant authorities to investigate and, if necessary, hold those responsible accountable.
In the same conference, Armenta also urged political parties to avoid nominating candidates with alleged ties to criminal activities for public office. He called for stronger vetting processes within political institutions to prevent individuals linked to illicit acts from gaining candidacies and eventually public service roles.
These statements came as part of a broader discussion on security and crime prevention in Puebla, reflecting ongoing concerns about governance and accountability in the region.
