José Luis García Parra, coordinator of Puebla’s state cabinet, presented key details about the upcoming Cablebús system during his appearance before the State Congress. He emphasized that the cable car will initially transport 1,000 passengers per hour, with plans to increase capacity up to 2,500 users per hour through nine transfer nodes integrated into the project.
Designed to complement the existing public transportation network, the Cablebús aims to improve mobility between the northern and southern parts of Puebla’s capital, addressing daily commuting challenges faced by many residents.
Addressing environmental concerns, García Parra firmly rejected claims of severe ecological impact from the construction. According to studies cited during the July 15, 2026 presentation, the route does not affect high-sensitivity vegetation or endemic tree species. Most trees along the path are non-native, and the project includes plans for conservation and transplantation of specimens, alongside compensatory planting of appropriate species.
The official also dismissed fears that the project would threaten the Valsequillo area, a concern raised by some community voices. Regarding wildlife, the studies found no impact on protected species, noting that local fauna mainly consists of urban-adapted animals. Preventive measures will be implemented to minimize interactions with birds and bats during operation.
Importantly, the Cablebús route avoids Puebla’s UNESCO World Heritage Zone of Monuments. To further protect this historic area, a 200-meter buffer zone has been established to prevent any direct or visual impact. García Parra assured that the system will blend with the urban landscape without altering the city’s historic image or damaging its cultural heritage.
Set to begin operations between October and November 2028, the Cablebús represents a forward-thinking approach to urban transit that balances efficiency, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation—an encouraging development for Puebla’s evolving metropolitan life.
