Scorpion encounters are once again stirring concern among residents in Puebla city, with reports multiplying across multiple neighborhoods. The alert began when Augusto Puente shared on Facebook that on the night of Sunday, July 12, he found a scorpion inside his apartment in the Joaquín Colombres neighborhood, urging neighbors to take extra precautions.

His post quickly sparked a wave of responses from people in over a dozen other colonias—including El Salvador, San Francisco, Barranca Honda, Santa María, Maravillas, San Martinito, San Francisco Totimehuacán, Miguel Hidalgo, Bosques de San Sebastián, Loreto, and areas near Clavijero—who reported similar encounters with scorpions found in bathrooms, patios, bedrooms, and even hidden among clothes and shoes.

For many, scorpion sightings are not new, but several residents noted that these encounters have become noticeably more frequent in recent days. This resurgence echoes earlier alerts from June 22, when social media buzzed with reports of scorpion proliferation in southern Puebla neighborhoods such as San Ramón, Castillotla, San Bernabé Temoxtitla, Guadalupe Hidalgo, Balcones del Sur, and Tres Cruces. At that time, people described finding scorpions inside clothing, shoes, and on beds, with subsequent reports emerging from Los Héroes de Puebla, Moctezuma, and Las Mercedes.

Despite growing citizen reports, neither the State Health Secretariat nor municipal or state Civil Protection agencies have officially confirmed a scorpion infestation in Puebla. Meanwhile, experts recommend practical steps to reduce risk: keeping patios and corners clean, inspecting clothes and footwear before use, and avoiding the accumulation of wood, stones, or debris around homes.

As urban growth and environmental changes reshape Puebla’s landscape, these encounters highlight the importance of community vigilance and proactive measures. For residents navigating these challenges, staying informed and prepared is key to coexisting safely with the city’s diverse fauna.
