Cofepris Alerts Consumers About Fake and Adulterated Gran Centenario Tequila Bottles

Post by usertopnews

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has issued a warning regarding counterfeit and adulterated bottles of Gran Centenario Añejo reposado tequila, specifically in the 950-milliliter presentation.

This alert comes after Casa Cuervo detected irregularities in the product being sold through online platforms, although it remains unclear whether these sales occur via established stores or social media networks.

The affected product does not meet sanitary or commercial labeling standards, posing a health risk since the ingredients, production, packaging, storage, and distribution conditions are unknown. Cofepris emphasized that the warning applies exclusively to the Gran Centenario Añejo reposado tequila with lot number L 061 24 and a net content of 950 mL.

To help consumers avoid purchasing adulterated alcoholic beverages, Cofepris recommends checking for:
– High-quality printed labels without spelling errors and properly affixed.
– Tax seals and QR codes from the Tax Administration Service (SAT) on the bottle neck or label.
– Intact seals and caps without signs of tampering, damage, or excessive glue.
– Firm bottle caps that do not move when twisted and show no leaks.
– Bottles free of dents or scratches.

Labels should also include:
– Product name.
– Country of origin.
– Alcohol percentage (% Alc. Vol.).
– Lot number.
– Name and address of the manufacturer, packer, or importer.
– Health warnings as required by Article 218 of the General Health Law, such as “Excessive consumption of these products is harmful to health.”

If you come across a suspected fake or adulterated bottle of Gran Centenario reposado tequila, Cofepris encourages you to file a complaint through the Mexican government’s sanitary complaint portal.

So far, no confirmed cases of hospitalizations related to this product have been reported. Cofepris assures it will continue sanitary control actions and keep the public informed to prevent health risks from products or services that violate current health regulations.

This alert was issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, underscoring the importance of vigilance when purchasing alcoholic beverages, especially through online channels where counterfeit products can circulate more easily.
