On the night of Wednesday, July 8, 2026, a patrol vehicle was swept away by the overflowing Atoyac River in the Humberto Vidal neighborhood of Santa Clara Ocoyucan. Rescue teams from the Fire Department recovered three bodies from the patrol, initially believed to include the police commander driving the vehicle.
The official report states that the patrol, identified as unit 030, was found around noon near 11 Sur. During the first rescue efforts, emergency personnel discovered one body and initially assumed it was Commander Agustín Malo Martínez, who was driving the official vehicle.
However, after removing that body, two more were found inside the patrol. Forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) later confirmed that all three bodies belonged to women—Silvia Gracida, Claudia Bonilla, and Concepción Márquez—and not to the police commander.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Commander Malo Martínez had responded to a call for help in the neighborhood and was assisting these women when the patrol was dragged by the floodwaters. Due to the sudden incident, he was unable to report the situation to his superiors, and it was only upon discovering the bodies that authorities learned the women had been inside the vehicle.
Authorities continue to deploy diving teams in the area to search for Commander Malo Martínez’s whereabouts. More information is expected to be released in the coming hours.
This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by emergency responders during natural disasters and underscores the importance of resilient infrastructure and timely communication in flood-prone areas.
