Intense rainfall in recent hours triggered a landslide along the edges of Puebla’s Metropolitan Park, leading to the collapse of a section of the bike lane next to the Atoyac River.

According to initial reports, rising water levels partially flooded the park’s infrastructure, softening the ground beneath the bike lane until it gave way. This incident occurred on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the affected area to prevent pedestrians and cyclists from entering, citing the risk of further landslides. Civil Protection personnel are conducting inspections to assess the damage and identify any other vulnerable spots within the park.

Beyond the bike lane collapse, the storm’s force also caused fallen branches and trees throughout the park, driven by strong currents and gusty winds accompanying the rainfall.
