Early this Wednesday morning, a chilling incident unfolded in Mexico City’s Álvaro Obregón borough, where a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of feminicide. The arrest followed a neighbor’s alert after hearing screams and loud noises from a property on Camino Real a Toluca and Chilenos streets, in the Mártires de Tacubaya neighborhood.
According to the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the woman who reported the disturbance witnessed one of the tenants carrying a black bag and trying to place it inside a cooler in the backyard. When police arrived at the address marked 513, they detained the man and discovered the remains of a 19-year-old woman, believed to be his partner.
Authorities also found a machete at the scene. The suspect was handed over to the Public Ministry, which will determine his legal status and continue with forensic investigations. A forensic unit from the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office was dispatched to the site to carry out expert examinations.
This tragic case highlights ongoing challenges in addressing violence against women in Mexico City, underscoring the urgent need for effective prevention and justice mechanisms. For communities and migrants alike, it’s a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and support networks in urban environments.
