A fresh wave of indignation has hit Puebla after a dog was deliberately run over by a pickup truck in the Jardines del Sur neighborhood, right across from Balcones del Sur. Witnesses say the driver intentionally struck the dog, which was lying on the road, and then fled the scene. Residents are now urging authorities to review surveillance footage to identify and hold the culprit accountable.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar case stirred public outrage—a video showed a water delivery truck from the brand Junghanns allegedly running over a dog on purpose in Puebla. That event reignited conversations about animal cruelty in the state and pushed for stronger enforcement.
Puebla’s laws do include penalties for acts of cruelty against animals. In fact, the State Attorney General’s Office recently secured the prosecution of a man accused of intentionally hitting a dog in Puebla’s capital back in 2022, setting an important legal precedent for addressing these crimes.
Residents of Jardines del Sur are demanding that this new case not be swept under the rug. They insist that if the intentional nature of the hit-and-run is confirmed, the responsible party must face justice under current legislation.
In a city where public transport projects like the cablebús aim to improve urban mobility and community well-being, addressing social concerns—including animal welfare—reflects a broader commitment to inclusive and responsible governance.
