Ex-boyfriend yes, conflict of interest no: controversy grows over Puebla official’s contract with influencer

Post by usertopnews

The debate around a 307,400-peso contract awarded to influencer Adolfo Lazzari has intensified after Michelle Talavera, director of Puebla’s Conventions and Parks department, admitted that Lazzari was her ex-boyfriend. However, she firmly denied any conflict of interest in the contract’s approval.

Talavera explained in a recent interview that their romantic relationship had ended before the contract was signed, dismissing claims that it influenced the administrative decision. She also declined to disclose the identities of other influencers involved in the campaign, citing privacy concerns.

This lack of transparency has sparked criticism from various sectors demanding clarity on how public funds were used. Critics argue that to fully dispel doubts, authorities should reveal who benefited from the contract, how many pieces of content each influencer produced, and the payments they received.

The controversy began when it was revealed that Conventions and Parks signed contract CP-PS-26-ENE-03 with Lazzari to promote spaces managed by the agency. Investigative reporting showed the influencer posted six videos fulfilling the contract terms but questioned the cost, suggesting it was higher than his usual rates for similar services.

In response, both Lazzari and the agency clarified that the contract covered not only his video production but also the coordination of a broader digital strategy involving multiple content creators. According to the department, this approach increased their social media reach and boosted park attendance.

Still, Talavera’s refusal to name the other influencers has fueled criticism on social media and among political figures, who emphasize that public resources demand maximum transparency and accountability.

So far, no fiscal authority has officially found a conflict of interest or irregularity in the contract. Yet, the case continues to raise important questions about the standards of transparency public officials should uphold when awarding contracts to individuals with whom they have personal ties.

For a city like Puebla, where innovative public transport projects like the upcoming cablebús promise to improve urban mobility and social inclusion, maintaining trust through clear governance is essential. This episode highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing effective public communication strategies with ethical public administration.
