Delta 7 Arrested in Veracruz: Suspect Confesses to Journalist Roxana Guzmán’s Murder

Post by usertopnews

On June 2, 2026, journalist Roxana Guzmán was forcibly taken from her home in Nanchital, Veracruz, after a violent raid by an armed group. More than three weeks later, on June 25, authorities captured José Del Carmen Cadena Escayola, known as ‘Delta 7,’ the alleged mastermind behind her kidnapping and murder.

The arrest took place in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, through a coordinated operation led by the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) and the Veracruz State Prosecutor’s Office. Following his capture, ‘Delta 7’ reportedly revealed the location where Guzmán was killed, bringing a crucial breakthrough to a case that had gripped the region.

Roxana Guzmán was the director of Pulso Informativo del Sureste, a news portal that broadcast live reports and citizen updates from southern Veracruz. Her abduction sparked widespread concern, especially after videos circulated on social media showing masked, armed men breaking into her home. Since that day in early June, her whereabouts remained unknown until this recent development.

The case drew national attention, with Mexico City’s President Claudia Sheinbaum addressing it during one of her morning press conferences. She emphasized that the Security Cabinet, led by Omar García Harfuch, was directly involved in the investigation, alongside federal and state forces. “It’s a matter that demands our full attention; whether or not she was a journalist, she is a person, a woman who was taken from her home,” Sheinbaum said.

The emotional plea from Guzmán’s family also resonated publicly. Her mother, Rubicelia Ramirez, implored the president not to forget her daughter, highlighting the human cost behind the headlines. “Please, don’t forget my daughter,” she said, to which Sheinbaum responded with a gesture of solidarity. The family urged the public and authorities alike to remain vigilant and report any information, no matter how small, that could aid the search.

This tragic case underscores the ongoing risks faced by journalists in Mexico, especially those reporting from regions with high levels of violence and impunity. It also highlights the critical role of coordinated state action in protecting civil rights and ensuring justice. As Veracruz authorities continue their work, the hope remains that Guzmán’s story will lead to stronger protections for the press and a renewed commitment to safety for all citizens.
