On the evening of Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Senator Félix Salgado Macedonio publicly announced that he will not pursue Morena’s candidacy for governor of Guerrero. Instead, he requested permission from Morena’s National Executive Committee (CEN) to register as coordinator of the newly created Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation and National Sovereignty in Guerrero.
Speaking live from “Perritos Felices,” a venue in northern Chilpancingo, Salgado addressed his exclusion from Morena’s internal selection process. He emphasized that he remains an active party member and argued that the coordinator role is distinct from elected office, as it is honorary and unpaid.
Salgado highlighted that Morena’s internal rules bar direct relatives from succeeding current officeholders, but he contended this does not apply to the coordinator position. He asked to be included in the survey that will decide who leads the defense committees, confident he has strong popular support.
Importantly, Salgado pledged that if he wins the survey, he will remain solely as coordinator and support whoever Morena designates as the gubernatorial candidate. “If I win the survey, I’ll stay coordinating the committees and back whoever Morena chooses for the candidacy,” he said.
His statements come amid ongoing debates about Morena’s candidate selection and internal democracy. Salgado also took the opportunity to congratulate Morena’s national president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, on her birthday during the live broadcast.
This development reflects the complex dynamics within Morena as it prepares for Guerrero’s upcoming elections. Salgado’s willingness to step back from the gubernatorial race while seeking a strategic party role suggests a focus on unity and grassroots mobilization, key elements for Morena’s electoral strength in the region.
