On Monday, June 22, 2026, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) revealed that Chedraui UPAEP in Puebla holds the title for the lowest prices on Mexico’s basic food basket. According to Iván Escalante Ruiz, head of Profeco, the 24 essential products cost just 764.40 pesos at this location, making it the most affordable option nationwide in the latest “Quién es Quién en los Precios” report.

During the morning press conference led by Mexico City’s president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Escalante Ruiz highlighted Chedraui UPAEP’s commitment to keeping prices accessible, marking it with a “check” for affordability. This comes as part of a broader effort to protect Mexican families’ purchasing power amid inflation pressures.

In contrast, the highest price for the same basket was found at Más Bodega Aurrera Las Fuentes in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, where the cost reached 911.60 pesos—just slightly above the national agreement’s limit of 910 pesos.

Most stores monitored have respected the recent agreement signed by President Sheinbaum Pardo alongside food industry leaders and major retail chains. This pact aims to stabilize prices on essential goods and ease the economic burden on households.

For migrants and residents navigating Mexico’s cost of living, these findings offer a clear guide on where to shop smartly. Puebla’s Chedraui UPAEP stands out as a beacon of affordability, reinforcing the importance of accessible, fair pricing in urban centers.
