On Monday, June 22, 2026, the Atlixco Secretariat of Citizen Security arrested a man and a woman linked to the circulation of counterfeit 1,000-peso bills in local businesses.

The operation began after merchants reported an attempted payment with a suspicious bill. Authorities responded promptly, launching a search that led them to the vehicle involved. During a preventive inspection, officers found 45 documents resembling fake 1,000-peso notes.

The suspects, Jorge N. and Berenice N., both originally from Mexico City, were detained and handed over to the Federal Attorney General’s Office for currency falsification charges.
