Starting Thursday, June 11, the historic Zócalo of Puebla will transform into a vibrant fan zone for the FIFA World Cup 2026, offering free access to watch 50 matches on a massive 6×3 meter LED screen next to Puebla’s iconic cathedral. This initiative, announced by Mayor José Chedraui Budib, aims to bring the excitement of the World Cup closer to those who can’t attend the stadiums in person.

Here’s what fans can expect at the fan zone:

– 500 seats for comfortable viewing
– Interactive areas and a human foosball field
– Photo zones and hydration points
– A full security operation to ensure safety
– A stage with professional audio and lighting
– Controlled access and security barriers
– Spaces for sports activities and dynamic games organized by the Municipal Sports Institute

The fan zone will open its doors at 10:00 a.m. daily, with activities running until 8:00 p.m., creating a lively environment for families, tourists, and football enthusiasts alike. The screenings will kick off with Mexico’s match against South Africa at 1:00 p.m. on June 11 at Estadio Azteca, followed by games against South Korea on June 18 at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara at 7:00 p.m., and the Czech Republic on June 24 at Estadio Azteca at 7:00 p.m. The final match will be broadcast on July 19.

Mayor Chedraui emphasized that the fan zone is completely free and designed to make Puebla’s historic center a hub for community gathering during the World Cup. He also acknowledged the support from private companies and sponsors, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this project.

The production and infrastructure setup will be managed by Experiax, whose president Jesús Salce shared details about the comprehensive facilities and planned activities to enhance the fan experience.

This initiative not only celebrates football but also reinforces Puebla’s commitment to inclusive public spaces and cultural engagement, offering a safe and accessible way for diverse communities to connect through sport.
