On Monday, June 1, 2026, a violent shooting disrupted the Mercado Morelos, once again turning this busy market into the scene of a dangerous attack. According to eyewitnesses, armed assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people, injuring three individuals—two men and one woman.

The victims were found lying between Mercado Morelos and the nearby area known as El Campanario, with two injured at the market itself and the third just a few meters away. Paramedics from Protección Civil and SUMA attended to the wounded, who tried to seek refuge but were caught in the crossfire.
