Morena, Mexico’s ruling party, announced it will file a criminal complaint against Nuevo León Governor Samuel García and his wife, Mariana Rodríguez Cantú, for allegedly diverting public funds to private firms owned by García.
During a press conference at Morena’s headquarters in Nuevo León, party representatives presented what they described as evidence of financial triangulation led by García and Rodríguez. According to their statements, between 2021 and 2023, the Nuevo León government transferred public funds to a supplier named Suministro Myr on at least four occasions. Suministro Myr then allegedly funneled approximately 35 million pesos to a sister company, Proveedor de Productos Mexicanos Jace, which subsequently deposited the money into Firma Jurídica y Fiscal Abogados—a law firm owned by Samuel García.
Morena also referenced a journalistic investigation by El Norte, which found that García’s law firm allocated 81.6 million pesos for social media advertising campaigns, in addition to the alleged financial transfers.
In response to these findings, Morena stated it will approach the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR) to formally request an investigation into both the governor and the state’s first lady.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about transparency and the use of public resources in Mexican politics, raising questions about accountability at the highest levels of state government. For migrants and expats following Mexican politics, this development underscores the importance of vigilant oversight and the role of investigative journalism in holding public officials to account.
