The set challenges builders to assemble 12,060 pieces into a 62-centimeter (24-inch) tall replica of the world\u2019s tallest church, which stands at 172.5 meters (566 feet). Rok \u017dgalin Kobe, Lego\u2019s Master Designer, said on Thursday that the goal was to \u201chonor Gaud\u00ed\u2019s vision with the utmost respect,\u201d capturing the basilica\u2019s complex rhythm and ambition in an immersive building experience. <\/p>\n
The Sagrada Familia\u2019s construction has long been considered nearly impossible due to its architectural complexity and the loss of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s original plans during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). For decades, visitors have seen cranes surrounding the church as work continued. <\/p>\n
Construction began in 1882 under Gaud\u00ed\u2019s leadership, who envisioned 18 towering spires representing biblical figures: the 12 apostles, four evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus. When Gaud\u00ed died in 1926, only about 10-15% of the church was complete, including a transept, crypt, and part of the apse wall. <\/p>\n
Though work remains, the structure was symbolically completed in late February 2026 with the finishing of the Tower of Jesus Christ. The tower will be inaugurated by Pope Leo XIV next Wednesday, exactly 100 years after Gaud\u00ed\u2019s death. <\/p>\n
