The pair had been covering the South African national team, Mexico\u2019s rival in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.  <\/p>\n<p>According to a message shared on X by the San \u00c1ngel-based broadcaster, both journalists were freed in South Africa and are expected to return to Mexico in the coming hours following the legal process they faced abroad.  <\/p>\n<p>Televisa Univisi\u00f3n reported on social media that Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez and Garc\u00eda were detained by South African authorities on March 18, 2026, while following the South African team\u2019s activities.  <\/p>\n<p>The statement read: &#8220;After more than two months, today the judicial authority in South Africa has released and returned the passports of our colleagues Julio Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez and Daniel Garc\u00eda.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>It also detailed that Julio &#8220;Profe&#8221; Ib\u00e1\u00f1ez and Daniel Garc\u00eda will return to Mexico tomorrow, June 3, 2026.
