In these recordings, Marina del Pilar allegedly discusses cooperation with U.S. intermediaries to resolve her immigration status. The Baja California governor confirmed the audios’ authenticity but claimed she was entrapped and denied compromising sensitive information or national sovereignty.

Campos condemned the situation, writing, “Handing over the country’s security in exchange for impunity has only one name: betrayal of the homeland.” She emphasized that in Chihuahua, “we have faced crime with the law in hand,” signaling a firm stance against criminal networks.

The Chihuahua governor also responded to Mexico City’s Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, who had differentiated Marina del Pilar’s case from Chihuahua’s security issues during a recent morning press conference. Sheinbaum argued that the Baja California audios do not prove any breach of national security, unlike Chihuahua’s case, which allegedly involves foreign agents operating on Mexican soil.

Campos replied pointedly: “The President said these are different cases. She’s right. They are so different that it must be said clearly.” She reiterated her claim that the “true traitors to Mexico” are those who “have made pacts with crime and protect those under justice’s watch,” demanding once again that the federal government “break the pact with crime.”

This exchange is part of a growing political confrontation between the PAN governor and Morena, which has escalated over recent months. In June, Campos accused the federal government of shielding politicians linked to organized crime, warning that this endangers national sovereignty. Morena countered by accusing her of allowing foreign agents to intervene in Chihuahua and violating the Constitution.

The debate continues amid national discussions sparked by the Marina del Pilar audios, touching on themes of U.S.-Mexico cooperation, sovereignty, and the fight against organized crime. For migrants and residents alike, these developments highlight the complex and often tense relationship between state and federal authorities in Mexico’s ongoing security challenges.

Chihuahua’s Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván has intensified her criticism of the federal government and Morena, accusing them of protecting organized crime and shielding officials under legal scrutiny.
