Monreal described any espionage activity as \u201crepugnant\u201d and recalled his own experience with illegal surveillance, emphasizing that such actions cannot be tolerated. \u201cShe has been the target of illegal espionage. I have been spied on in the past, and I reject any such actions. The governor should file a criminal complaint… Obtaining these audios illegally cannot be allowed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also warned that if Marina del Pilar is being spied on, this might not be the only leaked audio, urging her to clarify the situation promptly.<\/p>\n
On the same day, Mexico City\u2019s Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed support for Marina del Pilar during her morning press conference. When asked whether Marina del Pilar should take a leave of absence to allow investigations, Monreal referenced the case of Chihuahua\u2019s Governor Maru Campos, who did not step down despite ongoing investigations involving foreign agents. \u201cEven with that, the governor of Chihuahua did not request leave when the presence of foreign agents was proven, and the investigation is still ongoing,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
Monreal also clarified that in Marina del Pilar\u2019s case, \u201cthere was no authorization or complicity from the FBI, CIA, or any external agency. There was no lending of State Police uniforms to foreigners.\u201d<\/p>\n
