Rescue teams are on their third consecutive day searching for a father and his two daughters trapped inside the Gruta de Chichicazapa, following heavy rains that caused a sudden rise in water levels in the Sierra Norte de Puebla. On Friday, July 10, the General Coordination of Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Management resumed search operations at 3:00 a.m., once conditions allowed specialized personnel to enter. Seven mixed teams\u2014composed of speleologists, rescuers, divers, local guides, and communication experts\u2014began staggered entries starting at 4:29 a.m., following a strategy coordinated from the Command Center.<\/p>\n
According to Colonel Bernab\u00e9 L\u00f3pez Santos, the state\u2019s Civil Protection coordinator, the main goal is to reach an area known as “La Cascada,” about one kilometer from the cave\u2019s main entrance. This zone is considered one of the most challenging due to the complex underground system, and expanding the search radius there is critical.<\/p>\n
To strengthen the operation, volunteers from San Luis Potos\u00ed joined efforts to install a speleo-WiFi communication system. This technology will maintain connectivity inside the cave, speeding up information flow between underground teams and the Command Center, which is vital for timely decision-making during the rescue.<\/p>\n
The emergency began last Wednesday when seven people were trapped by the sudden rise of the subterranean river. Three were rescued alive, one 31-year-old man was found deceased, and three remain missing.<\/p>\n
