Although she did not specify the final amount spent, Nahle acknowledged that additional repairs discovered during the restoration process led to increased costs.

During a media tour of the historic building, the governor explained that as work progressed, new needs emerged across various areas, prompting her to approve further interventions. “When they tell me, ‘Hey, this came up,’ I say, go ahead,” she said.

The project is being carried out in coordination with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) to preserve the architectural elements, murals, and original finishes of this heritage site. The renovation includes refurbishing offices, halls, and corridors, installing marble floors, building restrooms, removing ceiling panels, adapting administrative areas, and preparing spaces for official activities.

Nahle emphasized that the goal is to restore a building that showed signs of deterioration and make it fully functional for the state government’s operations. The renovation is expected to be completed around September 15, 2026, when the palace will reopen for official events.

As part of the reopening, the governor plans to propose a solemn session of the State Congress to be held in the palace. She also revealed that one of the halls will be named after a woman—potentially herself as the first female governor of Veracruz—though she clarified that this decision has not yet been finalized.

This renovation reflects an effort to honor Veracruz’s cultural heritage while updating government infrastructure, a move that could enhance public engagement and accessibility in the heart of Xalapa.

On Monday, July 6, 2026, Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García confirmed that the renovation of the Government Palace in Xalapa has surpassed the initially planned budget of 60 million pesos.
