Alejandro Gertz Manero, former head of Mexico\u2019s Fiscal\u00eda General de la Rep\u00fablica (FGR), has made public for the first time a detailed declaration of his assets following his transition to Mexico\u2019s ambassador to the United Kingdom. The document, submitted on June 15, 2026, to the Secretar\u00eda Anticorrupci\u00f3n y Buen Gobierno as part of his obligations with the Secretar\u00eda de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE), reveals a portfolio that includes 13 properties, luxury vehicles, jewelry, artworks, and investments both in Mexico and abroad.<\/p>\n
Gertz Manero led the FGR from January 2019 until November 2025, a period during which his financial disclosures remained largely confidential due to the institution\u2019s constitutional autonomy. His move to the diplomatic service now requires transparency, shedding light on the wealth accumulated during his tenure.<\/p>\n
Among the reported assets are:
\n– Ten houses, one apartment, a plot of land, and a building, all registered under his name. Some properties were inherited, while others were purchased or transferred.
\n– Notable acquisitions include a house bought in 1996 for 2.34 million pesos, a U.S. residence acquired in 2007 through a $1.19 million mortgage from Chase Home Finance LLC, and a Madrid apartment purchased in December 2013 for one million euros. This last property had drawn public attention since 2022, when investigative reports revealed Gertz Manero\u2019s ownership of Spanish real estate valued at approximately 113 million pesos, including homes in Madrid\u2019s exclusive Los Jer\u00f3nimos neighborhood and three properties in Ibiza managed via the company Feserinvest S.L.<\/p>\n
The declaration also lists shares in Feserinvest S.L., as well as in Mexican companies Algerman Inmobiliaria S.A. de C.V. and Desarrolladora del Centro S.A. de C.V.<\/p>\n

\n– Artworks appraised at 8 million pesos.
\n– Furniture, rugs, and books worth 2 million pesos.

The vehicle collection features luxury and classic cars such as a 1994 Cadillac Concours, a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL, and two Rolls-Royce models: a 1966 Sedan and a 2014 Wraith purchased outright in November 2020 for 2.7 million pesos. Additionally, he declared inherited vehicles including a 1972 Ford Galaxi, a 1982 Dodge Dart, and a 1994 Ford Lincoln.<\/p>\n
Financially, Gertz Manero disclosed accounts and investments with institutions like HSBC, BBVA, Actinver, Scotiabank, Bankinter Spain, and Credit Suisse, with assets linked to Mexico, the U.S., and Spain. He also reported a mortgage credit originally valued at $576,882 with Chase Bank, alongside credit card debts.<\/p>\n
Regarding income, the ambassador stated a net monthly salary of 196,220 pesos, with no additional earnings from business or advisory roles. In 2025, he declared net income of nearly two million pesos, including over 271,000 pesos from stock market returns.<\/p>\n
This disclosure comes after years of scrutiny over his wealth, especially following the 2022 El Pa\u00eds investigation. At that time, a spokesperson defended the legality of the acquisitions, confirming that the Madrid apartment was bought below market value due to its condition and that Gertz Manero obtained Spanish residency through this purchase.<\/p>\n
The asset declaration also outlines his academic background: a law degree from Escuela Libre de Derecho and three doctorates in law from UNAM, Universidad de las Am\u00e9ricas, and Mount Union College in Ohio.<\/p>\n
