Alfredo Erazo, Puebla’s special prosecutor for high-crime incidents, confirmed that although the tenth victim reportedly intended to file a complaint, no official reports have been received by the State Attorney General’s Office as of today, Friday, June 19, 2026.

Despite the lack of formal complaints, investigations have been initiated ex officio. The authorities have not determined whether the shooter is a man, a woman, or if multiple individuals are involved. This uncertainty fuels public concern and a sense of impunity.

Jonathan Sánchez Vargas, a criminology expert from the Colegio Libre de Estudios Universitarios, criticized the apparent delays in the investigation, suggesting they contribute to perceptions of disinterest and a possible lack of intelligence strategies by the authorities.

Since January 12, 2026, when a 12-year-old boy was first injured by a bullet to the jaw while exiting a vehicle, at least 11 incidents linked to the shooter have circulated on social media. Only six of these have resulted in formal complaints, including the latest case reported today at Plaza W.

Key incidents include:

– February 12: Shots fired at a motorist near Hotel Camino Real.
– April: A red Mini Cooper was hit by a bullet in the Cúmulo de Virgo area.
– May 27: A married couple’s gray Jetta was struck twice near Torres JV; another attack targeted a pickup truck near the Ozzu restaurant on the same day.
– May 29: A young driver found a bullet lodged in his car seat without injury.
– May 30: Two young women, Karla and Leila, were attacked while stuck in traffic near Torres JV.
– June: A Ford Mustang (1975) was hit near the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
– June 16: A doctor became the tenth victim and the sixth to file a formal complaint.
– June 19: The eleventh case was reported, involving a bullet piercing a windshield.

State and municipal authorities have increased patrols and launched various operations to locate the suspect. On June 2, Francisco Sánchez González, Puebla’s Secretary of Public Security, revealed that the shooter initially used pellet guns before switching to a 9mm firearm. He also suggested the attacks might be originating from a building in the area.

While the ongoing investigation faces challenges, the situation underscores the urgent need for effective public safety measures in Puebla’s Atlixcáyotl corridor. Enhanced surveillance and community engagement could help restore confidence and protect residents navigating this vital urban artery.

Nearly six months have passed since the first attacks attributed to the so-called Atlixcáyotl shooter, yet no arrests have been made and the suspect’s identity remains unknown.
