The protesters accused Puebla’s mayor, José “Pepe” Chedraui, and his officials of backing Pérez Xilotl despite his lack of legal legitimacy.

A union representative stated, “We are against the current mayor and his officials, who are corrupt. Our union exists, but the leader no longer does. That is our grievance.”

The demonstrators also claim that the current leadership is withholding workers’ funds, directly impacting their families’ livelihoods. They have already filed formal legal complaints, with lawyers now handling the case to stop these alleged abuses.

If the Puebla City Hall does not provide a clear response, the naranjitas warned they will continue with dialogue sessions and further protests in the coming days.

Adding to the tension, the protesters accused the municipal government of colluding with the PAN political party to maintain control over the union under Pérez Xilotl’s leadership. They revealed that on May 26, 2026, a lawsuit was filed to nullify Pérez’s re-election.

The union singled out Jorge Morales Galindo, a PAN member, as the key link between the current Morena administration and the union leadership. Morales Galindo reportedly receives two salaries: one as a consultative analyst earning 19,700 pesos monthly, and another as the legal representative for Pérez’s group—paid through deductions from sanitation workers’ rest periods.

This protest highlights ongoing struggles for transparency and workers’ rights within Puebla’s public services, underscoring the importance of accountable leadership and fair labor practices in the city’s evolving political landscape.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, members of the Organismo Operador del Servicio De Limpia (OOSL), known locally as the “naranjitas” for their distinctive orange uniforms, gathered in front of Puebla’s Municipal Palace to demand the ousting of Salvador Pérez Xilotl from the leadership of the Ricardo Flores Magón union.
