The iconic Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, a masterpiece under construction for 144 years, is now available to build at home—brick by brick, but on a much smaller scale.
Lego has just unveiled its newest addition to the miniature monuments collection, which includes landmarks like New York’s skyline, the Eiffel Tower, and Rome’s Trevi Fountain. This time, the Danish toy company honors the centenary of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death with a detailed model of his most famous work.
The set challenges builders to assemble 12,060 pieces into a 62-centimeter (24-inch) tall replica of the world’s tallest church, which stands at 172.5 meters (566 feet). Priced at US$799.99 (about 17,999 pesos), it’s a premium collector’s item. Pre-orders are open now, but fans will have to wait until November 1 to get their hands on it.
One standout feature is the stained-glass effect, designed to mimic the colorful light filtering through the real basilica’s windows. Rok Žgalin Kobe, Lego’s Master Designer, said on Thursday that the goal was to “honor Gaudí’s vision with the utmost respect,” capturing the basilica’s complex rhythm and ambition in an immersive building experience.
The Sagrada Familia’s construction has long been considered nearly impossible due to its architectural complexity and the loss of Gaudí’s original plans during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). For decades, visitors have seen cranes surrounding the church as work continued.
Construction began in 1882 under Gaudí’s leadership, who envisioned 18 towering spires representing biblical figures: the 12 apostles, four evangelists, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus. When Gaudí died in 1926, only about 10-15% of the church was complete, including a transept, crypt, and part of the apse wall.
Though work remains, the structure was symbolically completed in late February 2026 with the finishing of the Tower of Jesus Christ. The tower will be inaugurated by Pope Leo XIV next Wednesday, exactly 100 years after Gaudí’s death.
For those who admire architecture, history, or just love a good challenge, this Lego set offers a unique way to connect with one of the world’s most extraordinary monuments—right from your living room.
