Sheinbaum thanks AMLO’s support amid criticism and US pressure

Post by usertopnews

On Thursday, June 4, 2026, Mexico City’s president Claudia Sheinbaum expressed calm and gratitude for the public backing of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) amid ongoing criticism and social media campaigns targeting her government. Speaking during the “Mañanera del Pueblo,” Sheinbaum addressed attempts by right-wing and far-right sectors to sow division within the political movement known as the Fourth Transformation (4T), affirming the continuity of the project initiated by López Obrador.

Sheinbaum recalled her long-standing alliance with AMLO, emphasizing their shared commitment to the transformation: “Imagine, I accompanied López Obrador for years and years in campaigns saying the transformation must continue.” She attributed the sustained popular support for 4T governments to what she called “love for the people,” a connection she believes critics fail to understand.

Amid accusations and pressure from the United States directed at Mexican officials, Sheinbaum thanked López Obrador for his public expressions of support, noting his consistent praise: “I truly appreciate his support and what he says about me. Many times he has spoken very well of me, and I thank him a lot.”

Sheinbaum also highlighted a persistent campaign on social media and some media outlets aimed at discrediting her administration and the 4T, but expressed confidence in the public’s ability to discern the truth: “There is a campaign of many things on social networks, closely linked to the right, but the people are very intelligent and we must keep informing.”

The president referenced recent remarks by the US Secretary of Homeland Security, who, after visiting Mexico, acknowledged the bilateral cooperation and respect for Mexican sovereignty: “They believe in sovereignty and we must respect each other. After coming to Mexico, he said they have done many things and that the collaboration is very good.”

Sheinbaum concluded by reaffirming her trust in the strength of her movement and citizen support, dismissing concerns about political confrontation or criticism: “Honestly, I feel very calm.”

This statement comes at a time when Mexico navigates complex political dynamics both domestically and with the United States, underscoring the importance of unity within progressive movements and respect for national sovereignty.
