Public complaints about Puebla’s public transport rise 15% in early 2026; Route 4 leads reports

Post by usertopnews

Between January and March 2026, complaints about Puebla’s public transportation increased by 15.3%, with 883 reports filed to the Secretaría de Movilidad y Transporte (SMT), compared to 766 in the same period of 2025. This means that, on average, 10 complaints were registered daily during the first quarter of the year, highlighting ongoing challenges in the system.

The most common issue reported was operators refusing service or not stopping when requested, accounting for 112 complaints or 12.7% of the total. Other frequent problems included:

– Excessive speed: 89 cases
– Poor treatment of passengers: 53 cases
– Vehicles with outdated license plates: 50 cases
– Reckless driving: 44 cases

Additional concerns involved running red lights, endangering passenger safety, driver misconduct, collisions, vehicles without proper registration plates, fare irregularities, and competition among operators.

When looking at specific routes, Route 4 topped the list with 33 complaints, followed closely by Route 11 (30), Route Azteca (29), and Route 76 (28). Other routes with notable reports were:

– Route 10: 27 complaints
– Route 50: 26 complaints
– Route 21: 24 complaints
– Route 3: 23 complaints
– Route 33: 20 complaints
– Route 25: 19 complaints

Given that 70% of daily trips in Puebla rely on public transport, these figures underscore the urgent need for improvements. State-supervised alternatives like RUTA and the upcoming cablebús system could offer more reliable, safer, and efficient options for commuters in the Angelópolis. The cablebús, in particular, promises to modernize urban mobility by reducing congestion and providing a more inclusive transit experience for all users.
