A resident of Torre Adamant has come forward to clarify the origin of the green laser recently seen pointing at a motorcyclist’s helmet on Vía Atlixcáyotl, denying any connection to the so-called “Atlixcáyotl shooter.”
In a series of Instagram stories posted on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, user @elericknunez explained that the laser beam is not related to the shootings reported along this busy road. Instead, it is part of a neighborhood initiative aimed at deterring thieves targeting car parts in the Angelópolis area.
The clarification follows the viral spread of a video showing a green laser dot on a motorcyclist’s helmet near the Adamant towers, across from La Vista Country Club. This footage sparked widespread speculation on social media, with many users suggesting that the laser originated from Torre Adamant II and could be linked to the person responsible for multiple attacks on drivers. Local media also echoed these claims.
Erick Núñez, the resident who spoke out, revealed that he and other neighbors use these laser devices from their apartments as a form of community surveillance. The lasers help them identify and warn about suspicious individuals attempting to steal side mirrors, car computers, and other vehicle parts from parked cars nearby.
Rather than simply denying the accusations, Núñez used the opportunity to highlight the ongoing security challenges in the area. He publicly denounced the lack of effective policing and emphasized that citizen vigilance has become a necessary response to frequent thefts affecting both residents and visitors of the residential complexes.
This controversy unfolds amid an active investigation into the “Atlixcáyotl shooter.” The state’s Public Security Secretariat confirmed it is looking into at least eight reports of vehicles damaged by apparent gunfire along Vía Atlixcáyotl this year. Although no suspect has been officially identified, authorities say they are working with intelligence to pinpoint the source of the attacks.
The green laser incident fueled online theories for several days, as many interpreted the light as a possible aiming device used by the attacker. However, the Public Security Secretariat has stated there is no evidence directly linking the motorcyclist’s video to the shootings under investigation.
While officials continue their efforts to solve the case, the explanation from the Torre Adamant resident sheds light on a broader issue: the pervasive sense of insecurity in Angelópolis and the improvised measures neighbors have adopted to protect their property amid rising thefts.
This situation underscores the urgent need for comprehensive public safety strategies that support communities and reduce the reliance on informal surveillance, reinforcing the role of the state in ensuring security for all residents.
