On the morning of Tuesday, June 2, 2026, journalist Roxana Berenice Guzmán Ramírez was forcibly taken from her home in the Primera de Mayo neighborhood of Nanchital, Veracruz.
A video circulating online captures the tense moments when two masked men arrive at her residence. One attacker smashes the door with a crowbar, breaking two glass panes, while the other points a long firearm inside. A man’s voice can be heard urging calm, saying, “There’s a baby, calm down.”
Once the door’s lower section is breached, two more armed individuals enter. One orders Roxana and another man inside to lie on the floor.
Initial reports confirm that Roxana Berenice Guzmán was abducted, and her whereabouts remain unknown as of now.
The Veracruz State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) has opened an investigation into illegal deprivation of liberty and deployed authorities to locate the journalist. In an official statement, the FGE said:
“From the moment the facts were known, the investigative team composed of prosecutors, experts, and ministerial police have been conducting actions to clarify the events, locate the victim, and identify those responsible.”
Roxana Berenice is the general director of Pulso Informativo del Sureste, a regional news outlet.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by journalists in Mexico, underscoring the urgent need for stronger protections and state action to safeguard freedom of expression and human rights.
