On Thursday, during an extraordinary joint session of the Senate’s Constitutional Points and First Legislative Studies committees, PRI Senator Carolina Viggiano stirred social media after a clip of her remarks went viral.

The discussion focused on the Judicial Power reform, but Viggiano shifted attention to recent accusations by the U.S. Department of Justice against 10 Morena politicians in Sinaloa.

She said, “Look, all this has fit them like a ring on the finger, but here’s some news: now justice is going to fall on you ‘like a finger in the ring.’” The phrase’s double entendre caught many off guard, including Morena Senator Manuel Huerta, who couldn’t hold back laughter.

Viggiano also singled out Morena’s Enrique Inzunza, one of the accused, who recently requested leave from the Senate. She called him a “fraud” and a “vulgar drug trafficker,” adding that if he were innocent and had no ties to organized crime, he would face the Mexican people directly.

This moment highlights the tense political climate surrounding corruption allegations and the ongoing judicial reforms, resonating strongly with citizens demanding accountability.
