On Friday, May 29, 2026, a man suspected of attempted robbery was brutally beaten by residents of the Rafael Ávila Camacho neighborhood in Tlachichuca, Puebla. Known locally as “El Chito,” the man allegedly tried to break into a home but was caught by the owners, who quickly called for help from neighbors.
Within minutes, dozens of people gathered and detained the suspect. Witnesses described a tense atmosphere fueled by frustration over the local police’s perceived inaction amid repeated reports of crime in the area. Residents expressed that despite multiple requests for increased security and attention to theft reports, no effective response had been received. This growing anger led several community members to physically assault the man.
Police officers arrived later at the scene but were unable to intervene in time to control the crowd or protect the suspect. According to unofficial sources, the man suffered severe injuries and was taken to the Casa de Justicia in Ciudad Serdán, where his death was confirmed hours later.
This incident has raised alarm among Tlachichuca residents, who noted that such violent acts have not occurred in the region for several years.
Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances and assign responsibility both to those involved in the lynching and to the security forces’ response. As of now, no official statement has been released regarding arrests or further developments related to the case.
