On Thursday, May 28, 2026, fear resurfaced in Puebla as employees of Grupo Phimsa reported their vehicle was hit by a bullet while driving along Vía Atlixcáyotl. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
This event adds to a growing list of similar cases in the area. Just a day earlier, a young man shared that a bullet struck his car and lodged in one of the seats. Over recent months, multiple drivers have reported suspicious gunfire or bullet impacts on vehicles traveling through Vía Atlixcáyotl and Periférico Ecológico, two of Puebla’s busiest roads. This has sparked widespread anxiety among daily commuters, workers, and students.
The problem dates back to February 2026, when the first documented cases of vehicles damaged by gunfire began to emerge. One of the most serious incidents involved a minor who was injured by a stray bullet while riding with his mother on Periférico Ecológico.
In response to the rising number of reports, Puebla’s Secretaría de Seguridad Pública (SSP) confirmed ongoing investigations into a possible shooter operating from buildings near Atlixcáyotl and Periférico. Officials explained that trajectory and impact angle analyses suggest some shots may come from an elevated area between these two roads.
Francisco Sánchez González, head of the SSP, acknowledged weeks ago that several shootings against motorists have been documented. However, he clarified that it remains unclear whether all attacks are linked to a single individual or if some are stray bullets.
Meanwhile, concern continues to grow on social media, with citizens demanding increased security in Angelópolis and along Vía Atlixcáyotl—key arteries that see thousands of vehicles daily. This ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for effective public safety measures to protect Puebla’s diverse and mobile community.
