Traditional cemitas from Puebla have taken a major step onto the international stage. “Cemitas Beto,” a beloved eatery inside the historic Mercado de La Acocota, has been awarded the Bib Gourmand distinction in the 2026 edition of the Michelin Guide Mexico. This category celebrates restaurants offering exceptional cuisine at accessible prices.
This recognition puts Puebla firmly on the global culinary map and affirms that traditional Pueblan food—served from market stalls and humble kitchens—can win over even the world’s most discerning food critics.
Why Did Cemitas Beto Make the Michelin Guide?
The Michelin Guide described Cemitas Beto as “one of the reference spots for cemitas in Puebla,” highlighting the bold flavors and authentic experience. Inspectors praised the signature slightly crunchy white bread topped with sesame seeds, as well as the generous fillings: pork milanesa, shredded quesillo, freshly sliced avocado, pápalo, and chili to taste.
“The menu is concise, but very convincing,” the guide noted, emphasizing the hearty portions and the informal, communal vibe of eating right at the stall—an essential part of Puebla’s food culture.
The Bib Gourmand isn’t about luxury or exclusivity. Instead, it honors places that deliver memorable dishes at reasonable prices. At Cemitas Beto, a milanesa cemita costs around 105 pesos, and many customers say it’s big enough to share. Other options include cemitas with pickled pig’s foot, chicken, or ham, all made with traditional ingredients and recipes passed down through generations.
The announcement sparked pride among locals and food lovers, with social media celebrating the fact that a traditional market business from Mercado de La Acocota had caught Michelin’s eye. One of the most-shared comments summed up the mood:
“Before saying ‘the ones from somewhere else are better’ or ‘they’re cheaper elsewhere,’ let’s congratulate those who received the recognition; as Poblanos, we should applaud and take pride in our own.”
A Historic First for Puebla
Puebla’s inclusion in the 2026 Michelin Guide marks a historic milestone—it’s the first time the state has appeared in this prestigious international selection.
Cemitas Beto is located inside Mercado de La Acocota, at 16 Norte 401, Barrio de La Luz, Puebla City. The stall is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and also takes orders at 222 246 3469.
For Mexican migrants abroad and newcomers to Mexico, this recognition is a reminder that the country’s culinary treasures aren’t just found in upscale restaurants—they’re alive and thriving in local markets, where tradition and community come together in every bite.
