US Secretary of Security Markwayne Mullin arrived at Palacio Nacional for a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum, focusing on bilateral security coordination between Mexico and the United States.
During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum highlighted that one of the main topics with the US official would be the protection of Mexicans living in the United States, especially in light of recent raids carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration within the framework of the existing security agreement between Mexico and the US. She explained that the agenda included a private meeting with Mullin and the Mexican Security Cabinet, followed by a technical working session involving officials from both governments.
Participants in the meeting include Foreign Affairs Secretary Roberto Velasco, Interior Secretary Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and Security and Citizen Protection Secretary Omar García Harfuch.
Sheinbaum reiterated Mexico’s willingness to continue working with the US under the current bilateral understanding, while stressing the need to protect the rights of Mexican nationals living across the border.
Mullin’s visit takes place amid a period of close cooperation between the two countries on issues such as organized crime, drug trafficking, migration, and border security.
