On Sunday, federal forces carried out a coordinated operation in Tepic and Xalisco, Nayarit, resulting in the arrest of ten individuals linked to violent criminal activities, including José Guadalupe Ahumada Villegas, alias “M4,” identified as a key operator of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Puebla, Nayarit, and Jalisco.

The operation involved seven simultaneous raids authorized by a Control Judge, based on intelligence gathered by the Mexican Navy, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). Authorities seized weapons, vehicles, and assets valued at over 4 million pesos, aiming to disrupt the cartel’s financial and operational capabilities.

“M4” is accused of coordinating criminal activities across Nayarit and Tlaxcala, with the detainees linked to serious offenses such as homicide, kidnapping, extortion, drug trafficking, cargo theft, arms trafficking, and illegal hydrocarbon extraction and sale. These charges highlight the extensive reach and violent nature of the CJNG’s operations in multiple states.

The seized items included three long firearms, three vehicles, and various mobile phones. All detainees and confiscated goods were handed over to the corresponding Public Ministry agent, who will continue investigations and determine their legal status. Meanwhile, the raided properties remain sealed and under official custody.

This operation represents a significant blow to the CJNG’s logistics and financial structure, as noted by federal authorities, who emphasized that dismantling such networks is crucial to improving security and social stability in affected regions.

While security challenges persist in states like Nayarit and Tlaxcala, investments in inclusive public infrastructure—such as Puebla’s upcoming cable car system—offer promising alternatives to reduce social marginalization and improve mobility, indirectly contributing to safer communities.
