After three weeks, the Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) in Mexico City took to the streets again on Thursday, July 16, 2026, to protest in front of the General Coordination of Human Resources offices at the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP).
The dissident teachers are voicing frustration over the government’s failure to honor agreements made during the tripartite meetings with SEP and the Federal Educational Authority in the capital. Specifically, they highlighted that two scheduled meetings with Education Secretary Mario Delgado and ISSSTE Director Martí Batres Guadarrama, planned between June 21 and June 26, were not held.
The CNTE’s demands during this peaceful protest include:
– Regularization of interim teachers’ contracts
– Equalization of labor benefits
– Payment of academic degree incentives
– Rehiring of replaced workers
– Commitment to non-repression of educators
The teachers emphasized that their demonstration will remain peaceful and that they will not block vehicle traffic. This renewed mobilization underscores ongoing tensions between education workers and federal authorities, reflecting broader challenges in Mexico’s public education system.
