Priest Linked to Process for Aggravated Pedophilia in Mexico City Case

Post by usertopnews

The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office has formally linked Enrique “N,” a priest, to the crime of aggravated pedophilia involving a 17-year-old girl in the Cuauhtémoc borough. This development follows a complaint filed on June 4, 2026, by the victim’s mother, who discovered explicit conversations on her daughter’s phone with a contact saved as “Winnie Poo.”

The adolescent identified Enrique “N” as the person behind the contact and accused him of coercing her into sexual acts on four separate occasions. Authorities gathered evidence through interviews, expert reports, technical surveillance, and other investigative measures, leading to an arrest warrant executed on July 9, 2026, by the Police Investigation Unit in the same area.

During a hearing on July 14, the prosecution presented its case, resulting in Enrique “N” being formally charged, placed under preventive detention, and given a two-month period to conclude the complementary investigation.

Spes Viva, a child rights organization, highlighted that Enrique “N” had served 25 years in ministry and was apprehended near the San Martín de Porres parish. The group criticized the Archdiocese for its silence since the arrest and demanded full cooperation with the investigation, justice for the victim, comprehensive reparations, and preventive measures to avoid recurrence.

In response, the Archdiocese of Mexico City confirmed the priest’s affiliation but stated it had not yet been officially notified by authorities. It expressed willingness to collaborate and announced that Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes has ordered a preliminary investigation under canon law and the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith’s protocols.

The religious institution assured it would take appropriate precautionary actions without interfering with civil proceedings. It also expressed solidarity with the adolescent and her family, urging respect for the victim’s privacy and maintaining confidentiality regarding the priest’s identity in line with the presumption of innocence and due process. The Archdiocese reminded the public that suspected cases of sexual abuse by ordained ministers can be reported to its Commission for the Protection of Minors.

Meanwhile, the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening investigations into crimes against children and adolescents. Enrique “N” remains presumed innocent until proven guilty by a judicial sentence.
