Cablebús in Puebla Cuts Tree Impact from 980 to 77, Most to Be Transplanted

The Puebla state government has significantly reduced the environmental footprint of its upcoming Cablebús project, shrinking the number of affected trees from 980 to just 77, according to José Luis García Parra, coordinator of the state cabinet.

During his appearance before the State Congress, García Parra detailed that this reduction was possible thanks to over 80 technical studies conducted on the cable car system. Of the 77 trees impacted, nine are native species, while 68 are exotic species that reportedly hinder the local fauna and vegetation.

Most of these trees will be transplanted rather than removed, and the environmental compensation program will prioritize planting only endemic species of Puebla. “It will be essential that only endemic species of Puebla are used in mitigation,” García Parra emphasized.

The project also includes a comprehensive environmental management plan addressing emissions control, noise reduction, solid waste management, and measures to protect biodiversity during both construction and operation phases.

Beyond restoration, the areas affected by construction will undergo urban and environmental improvements aimed at recovering and dignifying public spaces.

These clarifications were part of the technical information presented by the state government to address environmental concerns surrounding the Cablebús, a key topic in ongoing debates about the project.

For many, this approach signals a thoughtful balance between expanding sustainable public transportation and preserving Puebla’s natural heritage—an important consideration for communities eager for better mobility options without sacrificing green spaces.
