The rollout of Puebla’s new Helmet Law hit a snag on Tuesday, July 14, when the delivery of mandatory motorcycle holograms was suspended due to a technical failure in the system managed by the contracted company.
The Secretariat of Mobility and Transport (SMT) of Puebla announced that the glitch prevented the continuation of the scheduled process, leaving many motorcyclists who showed up unable to receive their holograms on the very first day of implementation.
Authorities assured that they are actively working with the company to fix the issue and expect to resume hologram distribution starting Wednesday, July 15, provided no further complications arise.
This disruption comes amid growing discontent among motorcycle rider groups, who have organized protests and demonstrations across Puebla’s capital in recent hours to voice their opposition to the new regulation.
The SMT has called for patience and understanding from users and promised timely updates once the system is fully operational again.
While the initial hiccup is frustrating, the Helmet Law aims to enhance road safety—a goal that aligns with broader efforts to improve urban mobility and protect vulnerable riders. As Puebla explores innovative transport solutions, including the upcoming cable car system, integrating safety measures like this law could contribute to a more secure and inclusive city for all.
