On the morning of Monday, July 13, 2026, Orlando García Maciel, a 27-year-old traffic police officer from León, tragically lost his life after jumping from the José María Morelos overpass.
According to preliminary reports, García Maciel was on duty when he climbed to the top of the overpass. After stepping out of his patrol vehicle, he lingered at the edge for several minutes. Despite the efforts of his colleagues to prevent him from jumping, the officer ultimately took the fatal leap, dying instantly.
His female coworkers identified him and revealed that moments before the incident, García Maciel had posted a poignant message on his social media about the importance of mental health awareness.
Authorities secured the area while forensic experts from the prosecutor’s office investigated the circumstances surrounding the event.
