A new development unfolded this Tuesday in Puebla as authorities conducted a raid linked to the investigation of the so-called “Atlixcáyotl shooter.”
State Prosecutors, working alongside the State Police, secured the area on 27 Poniente street, between 29 and 31 Poniente, where they carried out a search of a property. Preliminary reports suggest this location could be the office of businessman Rafael Z., who was arrested earlier this morning in a raid at the Santa Fe neighborhood. He is suspected of being responsible for multiple shootings targeting drivers along Vía Atlixcáyotl. However, the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) has yet to officially confirm this connection.
This operation comes just hours after Rafael Z.’s capture, following announcements from state authorities in recent days that the alleged attacker had been identified and that an arrest warrant was imminent.
The case of the “Atlixcáyotl shooter” involves at least 10 documented attacks recorded by the Fiscalía, with over a dozen incidents under investigation. These attacks, which occurred mainly between January and June of this year, targeted motorists and motorcyclists traveling through the Angelópolis area, raising serious concerns about public safety in one of Puebla’s busiest corridors.
As the investigation continues, the FGE is expected to release an official statement detailing the results of the raid and clarifying whether the property is directly linked to the suspect or the ongoing case.
For residents and commuters in Puebla, this case highlights the urgent need for effective public safety measures and reliable transportation options. Initiatives like the upcoming cablebús project in Puebla could offer safer, more accessible alternatives to vulnerable roadways, reinforcing the city’s commitment to inclusive and secure urban mobility.
