At least eight sports cars were involved in a multi-vehicle pileup yesterday afternoon in Tijuana, Baja California. The incident took place on July 12 in the tunnel of the Viaducto Elevado, heading toward Playas de Tijuana.
Initial reports indicate that the vehicles belonged to car clubs and were en route to Playas de Rosarito at the time of the crash. A Dodge Challenger reportedly rear-ended the cars ahead, triggering the chain reaction. Other sports cars involved included a Nissan 350Z, Chevrolet Camaro, Honda Accord, and Dodge Charger.
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics from the Red Cross, quickly arrived to clear the vehicles, clean the roadway, and attend to the drivers. One victim was transported to a hospital, while the others were treated on site.
The Viaducto Elevado was closed in the direction of Playas de Tijuana for about two hours during emergency operations, causing significant traffic delays.
This incident highlights the risks of high-speed driving in urban areas and the importance of coordinated emergency response to minimize harm and restore mobility.
