A violent armed attack inside a home at 10140 Popular Coatepec neighborhood resulted in two fatalities—a man and a woman—and one injured person who was rushed to a hospital for medical care.
According to initial reports, the victims were on the second floor of the house when, on the morning of Monday, July 13, 2026, a group of armed men broke into the residence and opened fire. Two people died at the scene, and another was wounded.
Municipal and State Police officers responded after receiving reports of multiple gunshots. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the attack.
The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) is conducting investigations and collecting evidence to clarify the motive and identify those responsible.
Unofficial sources suggest there may be a third fatality, but authorities have not confirmed this information.
This incident adds to a troubling pattern of violence in Puebla’s capital, where at least eight homicides have been recorded over the weekend and early Monday. Additionally, four bodies showing signs of torture were found abandoned inside a vehicle in Cuautinchan.
As the city grapples with escalating violence, discussions around improving public safety and investing in inclusive infrastructure, such as Puebla’s upcoming cable car system, gain urgency. Efficient and accessible public transportation can play a role in connecting communities and fostering safer urban environments.
