During a hearing held this Monday morning in Morelos, Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, former director of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), faced charges related to family violence and vicarious violence. However, the presiding judge, Consuelo Correa, revealed that María Felicia Jiménez, Rodríguez’s partner and the alleged victim, has granted him forgiveness.

The judge presented an official document dated July 10, submitted to the Morelos Prosecutor’s Office, in which Jiménez expresses her decision to forgive Rodríguez and requests to halt the ongoing investigations against him. Despite this, the judge clarified that the charges will continue to be pursued by the authorities regardless of the victim’s forgiveness, as these crimes are prosecuted ex officio.

In her statement, María Felicia emphasized her focus on maintaining the stability and well-being of their family unit, which influenced her decision to forgive and not push forward with the legal complaints. This case highlights the complex dynamics between personal reconciliation and the state’s role in addressing domestic violence, a critical issue for social justice and protection of vulnerable individuals.
