165 Kilos of Cocaine Seized and 11 Passengers Arrested at Tijuana Airport

Federal authorities intercepted 165 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside backpacks and detained 11 passengers at Tijuana International Airport, Baja California, as part of intensified security measures in the region.

The operation stemmed from field and intelligence investigations that flagged suspicious activity linked to drug trafficking among passengers. This led to random luggage inspections on a flight arriving from Guadalajara, Jalisco.

During a thorough search, agents discovered 165 rectangular packages containing a white powder consistent with cocaine. The entire shipment, weighing 165 kilos, was concealed within 11 backpacks.

All 11 passengers were arrested and informed of their legal rights. Both the individuals and the seized drugs were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine their legal status and continue the investigation.

This coordinated effort involved personnel from the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) through the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), alongside the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the National Guard (GN).

These security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to working together to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent these substances from reaching the streets.

For communities navigating life between borders, such operations highlight ongoing challenges but also the state’s active role in safeguarding public spaces. Meanwhile, investments in inclusive infrastructure like Puebla’s upcoming cable car system offer a contrasting vision—one focused on connectivity, accessibility, and social progress.
