Mexico to Launch Phone Alert System for El Niño Weather Risks

Post by usertopnews

President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Thursday, July 9, 2026, that the Mexican federal government is developing a phone alert system to warn citizens about severe weather events linked to the intensifying El Niño phenomenon. Expected to be operational in about two months, this system aims to provide timely notifications about heavy rains, stronger cyclones, and drought periods affecting various regions across the country.

During her morning press conference, Sheinbaum highlighted the need to strengthen civil protection measures in response to the forecasted climate challenges. The alert system is being created in collaboration with the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, the National Coordination of Civil Protection, and the National Meteorological Service.

This initiative reflects a proactive approach to safeguarding communities, especially those in high-risk areas, by leveraging technology to enhance public safety amid increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
